Make your own beer pong table

Alright… Time to put the closet doors back where they belong… Let’s be honest, your makeshift beer pong table that you’ve held so dear to your heart looks like sh*t – I thought we taught you to be a little more classy? If you’ve got a weekend and a few bucks to burn, follow these simple steps below to transform your joke setup into the ultimate beer pong table:

1.)   I prefer tables that you can easily fold up and put away when your girlfriend’s parents come into town… they tend to be pretty lightweight and practical when it comes to a smaller dorm room or apartment. All the supplies you’ll need are the following:

-          Sheet of Plywood (a 4 x 8 cut is usually pretty standard)

-          Folding Table legs (with screws)

-          Sand Paper

-          Primer

-          Painters Tape

-          Paint (Waterproof Polycyclic or anything waterproof)

-          Polyurethane Finish

2.)   To start, fasten the folding table legs to the bottom-side of the sheet of plywood. Usually I go with legs that are adjustable to accommodate my roommate who’s 6’9 (something like this: http://www.metalkraft.com/viewproduct.php?id=1) and you really shouldn’t be paying over $30-$40 for the pair.

3.)   After the legs have been secured to the plywood, flip the table back over and begin sanding the top surface of the plywood.

4.)   To do a legit design and / or paint job, after the plywood has been thoroughly sanded, it should be primed. Grab any cheap primer you see at Lowes or Home Depot and make sure your let it fully dry before applying the paint. You could even spend a little more cash and get paint and primer all in one, Behr seems to make the best for the price.

5.)   Before you go to paint, layout any designs you want with painters tape. Usually, I layout the cup placeholder triangles on both ends with the standard 10 or 6-cup setup (and usually paint the interior of the triangle a different color than the table.) Here is the part where you can get really creative and design any school tributes, fraternity / sorority letters, favorite sports team’s designs, etc.

6.)   Apply a few coats of polyurethane after you finish the paint job to make the table have a gloss effect, this stuff really makes the table pop.

You can always buy one..

If you’re lazy and would rather just buy a bad ass beer pong table, Check these guys out PartyPongTables.com . Last year my girlfriend bought me one for my birthday with my last name on it. They are really convenient when we hit up house parties (fold into the size of about a briefcase) and have waterproof speakers with an ipod jack directly on the table!

How badass you’re table will look depends fully on your imagination, and what custom designs you decide to add. It helps to draw out your idea first on a piece of paper that you can edit a few times, before settling on a final design concept. Make sure you share your design with a couple of your friends to get a feel if it’ll be a crowd pleaser. No one wants to spend hours making a beer pong table just for it to look lame. Good luck!
